About Reuben

I have always been excited by food and cooking since I was able to reach the kitchen table. From a young age I would always help my mother in the kitchen, whether it was shelling, peeling or kneading and then later, blending, chopping and sautéing. I was forever encouraged to try everything, wherever I went in the world, so that I could develop my palate from a young age. Since then, I have always made it my aim to experience food and wine as much as possible, wherever I go – and not just by eating, but by visiting farms, vineyards and markets. Talking to producers and going to festivals and local fairs.

I met my wife nine years ago and she, being Italian, shares a great passion for all things delicious. Her family’s place in Tuscany produces wonderful olive oil and the vineyards nearby are the best in the area. The produce around there is unbelievable and allows me to cook with and for the family whenever we visit. From this I have picked up many valuable insights into the “Italian kitchen.”

I have been lucky enough to have cooked with a good friend of their family, Anna Del Conte, whose books I covet and who has taught me many invaluable lessons when cooking Italian. I have also met and cooked with Christophe Michalak, World Champion Pastry chef and head patissier at the Plaza Athénée in Paris and The Guardian’s Dan Lepard.

Finally, wine is another passion, having studied viticulture as part of my degree and gaining a WSET during my time at Oddbins. I have hosted tastings for customers and staff and friends over the years, which has proven to be fun as well as informative. I firmly believe that a good (and not necessarily expensive) wine can really compliment a meal and ensure a wonderful result for any dinner party.

I hope to be able to pass on my love and knowledge of good food, and show you what you are capable of!
